1. Introduction

Dotient ("we," "our," or "us") is a local-first desktop application that helps you organize and search through your personal files using ML-powered visual search. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

Dotient is designed to work fully offline. The only exceptions are license key validation (a one-time request when you activate) and URL enrichment (fetching a page title and favicon when you add a URL bookmark). Everything else; indexing, searching, AI embeddings, storage, runs entirely on your machine with no internet connection required.

2. Data Collection & Processing

Dotient processes your files locally on your computer. When you import files into Dotient:

  • Files remain on your device, they are never uploaded to any external server
  • AI embeddings are generated locally using quantized machine learning models
  • Your files are analyzed for visual features (colors, patterns, objects) to enable search
  • We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal files in the cloud

Dotient does make the following lightweight network requests:

  • License validation: When you activate a license key, it is sent to verify its validity
  • URL enrichment (Dotient Web): When you add a URL bookmark, the URL is fetched to retrieve the page title, favicon, and metadata. No content from your bookmarked pages is stored beyond what you see in the app.

3. Local Storage

Dotient stores the following data locally on your machine:

  • File metadata (filenames, paths, creation dates)
  • AI-generated embeddings and color data for your files
  • Your Cubbies (collections) and Notes
  • Application settings and preferences

4. Third-Party Services

Dotient does not share your personal files or metadata with any third parties. The AI models used for embedding generation run entirely offline on your device.

These requests are handled by a lightweight service. We do not sell or share the data processed in these requests with third parties.

5. Children's Privacy

Dotient is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in this page.
